GET OUTSIDE
Hikes, camping, paddling, fishing, climbing, family outings and time on the land.
OUTDOORS • COLLECTIVE PREPAREDNESS • ORGANIZING
Learn something useful. Find your people. Build the base.
Black Base Camp brings Black folks outside to build practical skills, collective confidence, deep relationships, and the capacity to act together.
WHY BLACK BASE CAMP?
Getting Black folks outside is about more than recreation. We use outdoor experiences and practical preparedness to build confidence, relationships, collective responsibility, and leadership.
You don't have to be an outdoors person. You don't have to call yourself an activist. Come learn something useful. We'll build from there.
“I can do this.” → “We can do this.” → “We can change this.”
WHAT WE DO
Every gathering combines four things: a useful skill, a crew, a way to understand the terrain, and a concrete next step.
Hikes, camping, paddling, fishing, climbing, family outings and time on the land.
Navigation, first aid, preparedness, shelter, food, communication and practical field skills.
Practice shared responsibility, interdependence, problem solving and care for the crew.
Bring somebody back. Volunteer. Teach. Join a community effort. Organize something people need.
HOW BLACK BASE CAMP BUILDS POWER
This isn't a member ranking system. It's the path Black Base Camp creates: joyful entry points become skills, relationships, responsibility, leadership and collective action.
BUILD YOUR FIELD KIT
Skill patches mark what you've practiced—not how important you are. Learn the competencies, demonstrate them in the field, then help somebody else learn them too.
THERE'S ALWAYS A NEXT STEP
